When I did this assignment first, I think K-pop could be called low art as is does not contain any background of religion, history or something meaningful in my definition. For me, low art means modern art, such as k-pop dance. K-pop dance gives me another feeling of dance. In comparison with other dance styles, it shows more power and movement, and is full of emotion when they dance to K-pop music. Whenever I listen to K-pop music or see somebody dance the k-pop style, I become very excited and wish that I could dance with them. Although k-pop may not have as much elegance, nor does it have an abundant background in religion or history in comparison to a high art like ballet, it does show people’s passion and pursuit.
When I participated in my friends' k-pop group later, I feel like K-pop connect people from different places and make people getting closer. As a music culture, it exceeds other music cultures in the world. Also, like what I wrote in the front, no matter it’s songs or dance, both need emotion to feel it and that’s music’s essence.
After I looked up some information about K-pop, I think k-pop is more representing teenagers’ rebellion and attitude toward this society in the music and those attitudes are most negative. For example, the new record of Bigbang in 2015, there are 8 songs in the record and all of songs are representing negative attitude. However, some the rhyme of songs sounds very leggiere. That’s typical K-pop style. Also, K-pop dances more pay attention to dance moves than vocal performances.
